About Us

Food For The Summer is now Food For Students

Food For The Summer was created in 2015 by Mayor Pam Hemminger and the Town of Chapel Hill in partnership with Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, UNC-Chapel Hill, and the Inter-Faith Council. In the four summers since its inception, Food For The Summer provided almost 200,000 meals to students in the community.

Beginning in 2020, Food For Students carried on the tradition of feeding students with the expansion of programs occurring outside the summer months. During the pandemic we served more that 1 million meals to our community.

Food For Students is a community endeavor headquartered in the CHCCS Child Nutrition Department, operated by Chartwells.
